ML: Maurice Lydell is a 22 year old, socially conscious rapper from Fredericksburg, VA. And I got inspired to take rap serious by going through the trials and tribulations of life. Music was my outlet.

PRESSED: Explain your style of music.

ML: Socially conscious, but with a bit of soul. Something you can dance too and think at the same time.

PRESSED: Is there anything about your creative process that separates you from another upcoming artist?

ML: Art of Rap. I might be one of the few left who appreciate the art. Finding the sweet spot in the beat, and throwing different rhyming patterns on top.

PRESSED: Who’s your biggest influence when it comes to making music?

ML: I listen to any rapper who ever rapped. Ranges from Biggie Smalls, to J.Cole, to Lil Wayne, Cyhi The Prince, Nas, etc.

PRESSED: Most recently, you dropped your album Camry Flows. What inspired the title?

ML: Camry Flows, I drive a 97 Toyota Camry. I’m on the road quite a bit chasing this dream, and my thoughts race as I’m on the highway. I contemplate life, brainstorm, all in those car rides.

ML: Favorite track is Letter To Lori. Very personal to me. And What You Need also.
