Since its release, the 10-song project reached No.10 on the iTunes' R&B and Soul music charts. “For Now On” is available on all digital platforms for download.
In an interview with Pressed, Vedo talked about his new album, working with Chris Brown, being a contestant on The Voice, his thoughts on a social media and more.
PRESSED: I appreciate you taking the time out of your busy schedule to talk with me. First off, take me back to when you first fell in love with music.
VEDO: I first fell in love with music the first time, I performed which was in church when I was 10 years old. I loved everything about it, the way it made me feel, and the way it made others feel. At that point, I knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.
PRESSED: Who were some of your influences growing up that influenced you music wise?
VEDO: My influences coming up was The Temptations, Stevie Wonder, Usher, Chris Brown, and Otis Redding just to name a few.
PRESSED: A lot of the new male R&B artists today are coming out with a more street sound. What’s your perspective on R&B music of today? Is there anything about your creative process that separates you from another upcoming artist?
VEDO: I think R&B is slowly making a come back. I think we are getting back to the “Love” that was missing from R&B. It’s not your normal Old school R&B, it has an edge to it, something that people of all ages can listen to.
My creative process is simple, I just do what my heart tell me to do. I used to try doing what I thought people wanted and I found that that didn’t work.
PRESSED: One thing I do respect about you is that you’re on it when it comes to social media. How has social media benefited you as an artist?
VEDO: Social media has helped tremendously... It has helped me get my music to millions of people, without having to result in signing to a major label. It has allowed me to connect with my fans on a personal level. Back in the day it was very impersonal, because the only time you got to see or talk to your favorite artist, was at their concert or meet and greet.
PRESSED: Many people don’t know you got your first big break as a contestant on the hit TV show, The Voice. What was that experience like and do you feel like you’ve evolved since the show?
VEDO: The experience on The Voice was definitely a dream.. I got to perform on probably the biggest stage in the world. The late nights and early mornings helped to prepare me for what I am stepping into now. I got to meet so many artist of different genres, some genres of which I didn’t know even existed. I got to meet people like Usher, Blake Shelton, Adam Levine and Shakira. I was able to get some great likes and musical advice from all of them.
I have evolved a lot since then.. From the way I dress, my style of writing and the way I carry myself etc. So yes! I feel like I have.
PRESSED: You recently released your debut album For Now On. What is the inspiration behind it? How this project differs and/or compared to previous Vedo releases?
VEDO: The inspiration behind this album was really me feeling like, we don’t give the woman enough credit for what she does. Also, my inspiration was the state of R&B. I felt like we needed something like that and If I did it in a way only I could, it would make a big impact. This project is different from my others, because it shows growth in all aspects of who I am.
PRESSED: Would you say that you have a favorite track on the EP? I’m loving Impatient & Potential.
VEDO: Yeah! My favorite tracks are Slow, Add To You, and Reminiscing.
PRESSED: Besides the obvious Michael Jackson, Prince, Usher, R Kelly, in your opinion what other artist impacted the game?
VEDO: Chris Brown for sure, Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, and Cardi B just to name a few. If we are talking “TODAY”.
PRESSED: Are you working with Chris Brown? If so, how is that experience coming along?
VEDO: Working with Chris on my music? No not yet, but I am writing songs and he’s loving my work.
PRESSED: What do you hope to accomplish in your career?
VEDO: LONGEVITY and SUSTAINABILITY... beyond my expectations and with GOD that’s extremely possible.
